Glaucoma Screening

Glaucoma is an eye disease caused by high pressure in the eye. It can develop gradually without warning and often without symptoms. The best way for people at high risk for glaucoma to protect themselves is to have regular eye exams.

Who Is Covered

Medicare beneficiaries who fall into at least one of the following categories:

   • Have diabetes mellitus

   • Have a family history of glaucoma

   • Are African-Americans aged 50 and older or

   • Are Hispanic-Americans aged 65 and older

G0117 - By an optometrist or ophthalmologist

G0118 - Under the direct supervision of an optometrist or ophthalmologist

Frequency

Annually for covered Medicare beneficiaries

Medicare Beneficiary Pays

You pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount, and the Part B deductible applies.

In a hospital outpatient setting, you also pay a copayment.
