Glaucoma Screening

Glaucoma is an eye disease caused by high pressure in the eye. It can develop gradually without warning and often without symptoms. The best way for people at high risk for glaucoma to protect themselves is to have regular eye exams.

Who Is Covered


Medicare beneficiaries who:

  • Have diabetes mellitus;
  • Have a family history of glaucoma;
  • Are African-Americans aged 50 and older; or
  • Are Hispanic-Americans aged 65 and older

Annually for covered beneficiaries

Beneficiary Pays


  • Copayment/coinsurance applies
  • Deductible applies
  • You pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount and the Part B Deductible applies.
  • In a Hospital outpatient setting, you also pay a Copayment

Your risk for glaucoma increases if any of these are true:

  • You have diabetes.
